7 races off the 21 already done, which is 1/3 season. Enea Bastianini took 3 race wins out of the 7, but is ain’t leading the championship. The only 2 riders to consistently finish inside the top 10 in all 7 races are now leading the championship – reigning champ Fabio Quartararo leading by 4 pts over Aleix Espargaro.
Ducati – Took 4 wins; Yamaha/ KTM / Aprilia – took one each. Honda and Suzuki are currently win less.

Fabio Quartararo, 102 pts, is leading the rider’s championship over Aleix Espargaro, 98 pts. With 3 wins under his belt, Enea Bastianini is on 94 pt. Big disappointment was that of Francesco Bagnaia. He was on scintillating form in the second half of the last season and closed in a big margin to Quartararo from 50+ to just 13 pts at the end of the season. So the general perception was that he’ll be the leading Ducati rider on the latest GP22, but crashes at crucial points in couple of races has costed him dear along with a 15th place in the wet conditions at Mandalika circuit, Indonesia. He’s currently on 56 points.

Coming to the team’s championship, Aprilia took over the lead after Rd.7. Consistency is again the key here with both their riders yet to score a DNF in this season. They lead by 6 pts over Suzuki. After a consistent showing in the opening 4 fly away races, Suzuki boys Rins and Mir had a tough 3 races in the European leg, especially the double DNF at the previous race in Le Mans, France. Total of 2 DNFs each for either rider in the last 3 races. The factory Yamaha team, currently in P3, look like have become a one man show with Quartararo scoring 102 off the team’s total of 121. Reigning team champs, Factory Ducati team, very close by in P4 on 118 pts.

In the manufacturer’s championship, Ducati, on 156 pts, are running away with 4 wins out of 7 races. They lead by 54 over Yamaha on 102. Interestingly, Ducati’s 2021 upgraded spec bike, GP 21, driven by Enea Bastianini took 3 wins out of the 4 by Ducati. The latest GP22 only a single win in the hands of Francesco Bagnaia.

Next up is the Italian Gp in Mugello on the 29th of May.
